An onsen is pretty cool. You sit naked in a big hot spring/hot bath for several minutes and enjoy the feeling. I thought I wouldn't like sitting in a bath with other naked men at first, but it doesn't bother me now. And no, no gaggle of women; onsens are divided by sex. I don't know how James Bond pulled that off...
This is me in front of an onsen at Kinosaki last month. I think it was about 8 in the morning at that time. As you can tell, I wasn't quite awake yet. 
Dude, it's never too early for an onsen!
